I received this in an e-mail and I wish to share it with you. It’s a story from an airline captain about one of his flights.
********

My lead flight attendant came to me and said, “We have an H.R. on
this flight.” (H.R. stands for human remains).
“Are they military?” I asked.
“Yes”, she said.
“Is there an escort?” I asked.
“Yes, I already assigned him a seat”.
“Would you please tell him to come to the flight deck. You can board
him early.” I said.

A short while later, a young army sergeant entered the flight
deck. He was the image of the perfectly dressed soldier. He
introduced himself and I asked him about his soldier. The escorts of
these fallen soldiers talk about them as if they are still alive and
still with us. “My soldier is on his way back to Virginia,” he
said. He proceeded to answer my questions, but offered no words on
his own. I asked him if there was anything I could do for him and he
said no. I told him that he had the toughest job in the military and
that I appreciated the work that he does for the families of our
fallen soldiers. The first officer and I got up out of our seats to
shake his hand. He left the flight deck to find his seat.

We completed our preflight checks, pushed back and performed an
uneventful departure. About 30 minutes into our flight I received a
call from the lead flight attendant in the cabin. “I just found out
the family of the soldier we are carrying is on board,” she
said. She then proceeded to tell me that the father, mother, wife
and 2-year old daughter were escorting their son, husband, and father
home. The family was upset because they were unable to see the
container that the soldier was in before we left. We were on our way
to a major hub at which the family was going to wait four hours for
the connecting flight home to Virginia . The father of the soldier
told the flight attendant that knowing his son was below him in the
cargo compartment and being unable to see him was too much for him
and the family to bear. He had asked the flight attendant if there
was anything that could be done to allow them to see him upon our
arrival. The family wanted to be outside by the cargo door to watch
the soldier being taken off the airplane. I could hear the
desperation in the flight attendant’s voice when she asked me if
there was anything I could do. “I’m on it,” I said. I told her that
I would get back to her.

In-flight communication with my company normally occurs in the form
of e-mail like messages. I decided to bypass this system and contact
my flight dispatcher directly on a secondary radio. There is a radio
operator in the operations control center who connects you to the
telephone of the dispatcher. I was in direct contact with the
dispatcher. I explained the situation I had onboard with the family
and what it was the family wanted. He said he understood and that he
would get back to me.

Two hours went by and I had not heard from the dispatcher. We were
going to get busy soon and I needed to know what to tell the
family. I sent a text message asking for an update. I saved the
return message from the dispatcher and what follows is the text:

“Captain, sorry it has taken so long to get back to you. There is
policy on this now and I had to check on a few things. Upon your
arrival a dedicated escort team will meet the aircraft. The team
will escort the family to the ramp and planeside. A van will be used
to load the remains with a secondary van for the family. The family
will be taken to their departure area and escorted into the terminal
where the remains can be seen on the ramp. It is a private area for
the family only. When the connecting aircraft arrives, the family
will be escorted onto the ramp and planeside to watch the remains
being loaded for the final flight home. Captain, most of us here in
flight control are veterans. Please pass our condolences on to the
family. Thanks.”

I sent a message back telling flight control thanks for a good
job. I printed out the message and gave it to the lead flight
attendant to pass on to the father. The lead flight attendant was
very thankful and told me, “You have no idea how much this will mean
to them.” Things started getting busy for the descent, approach and
landing. After landing, we cleared the runway and taxied to the ramp
area. The ramp is huge with 15 gates on either side of the
alleyway. It is always a busy area with aircraft maneuvering every
which way to enter and exit. When we entered the ramp and checked in
with the ramp controller, we were told that all traffic was being held for us.

“There is a team in place to meet the aircraft,” we were told. It
looked like it was all coming together, then I realized that once we
turned the seat belt sign off, everyone would stand up at once and
delay the family from getting off the airplane. As we approached
our gate, I asked the copilot to tell the ramp controller we were
going to stop short of the gate to make an announcement to the
passengers. He did that and the ramp controller said, “Take your time.”

I stopped the aircraft and set the parking brake. I pushed the
public address button and said, “Ladies and gentleman, this is your
captain speaking. I have stopped short of our gate to make a special
announcement. We have a passenger on board who deserves our honor
and respect. His name is Private XXXXX, a soldier who recently lost
his life. Private XXXXX is under your feet in the cargo
hold. Escorting him today is Army Sergeant XXXXX. Also, on board
are his father, mother, wife, and daughter. Your entire flight crew
is asking for all passengers to remain in their seats to allow the
family to exit the aircraft first. Thank you.”

We continued the turn to the gate, came to a stop and started our
shutdown procedures. A couple of minutes later I opened the cockpit
door. I found the two forward flight attendants crying, something
you just do not see. I was told that after we came to a stop, every
passenger on the aircraft stayed in their seats, waiting for the
family to exit the aircraft. When the family got up and gathered
their things, a passenger slowly started to clap his hands. Moments
later more passengers joined in and soon the entire aircraft was
clapping. Words of “God Bless You,” “I’m sorry,” “Thank you,” “Be
proud,” and other kind words were uttered to the family as they made
their way down the aisle and out of the airplane. They were escorted
down to the ramp to finally be with their loved one. Many of the
passengers disembarking thanked me for the announcement I had
made. They were just words, I told them, I could say them over and
over again, but nothing I say will bring back that brave soldier.

———————————————————-

A final thought…..

Over the years the meaning of Memorial Day has faded too much from
the public consciousness. From a solemn day of mourning, remembrance,
and honor to the men and women who died in providing the freedoms we
enjoy, it has been reduced to a weekend of BBQ’s, shopping bargains
and beaches where only token nods toward our honored dead is given,
if at all. Too many don’t know what the day stands for.

So, let’s not forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice. They are
remembered in all our prayers. Also, let’s not forget a prayer for
the safety of all service men and women, whether they serve at home
or overseas. Finally, a heartfelt Semper Fi from this Hospital
Corpsman is sent to all the Marines I knew. -Tom

*******

Everybody have a safe and pleasant Memorial Day. Remember those who gave their all to protect the freedoms we enjoy.

I’ve seen this before and thought it would be worth sharing again. As you read these rules, think about how they apply to Internet/Network Marketing, and what we see out on the web. I noticed that there were many parallels that apply to the business world.

Bill Gates – Life Today

He sure hits the nail on the head with this!

Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept sets them up for failure in the real world.

Rule 1: Life is not fair – get used to it!

Rule 2: The world won’t care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won’t be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.

Rule 6: If you mess up, it’s not your parents’ fault, so don’t whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren’t as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent’s generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they’ll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn’t bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don’t get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.

Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you’ll end up working for one.

All through our lives we are face with challenges. What defines our direction in life is how we confronted and handled those challenges. Some of them are harder to overcome than others, but the bottom line is we can always overcome them. If we want to. And that is the question. Do you want to just run away from these challenges? Or confront them head on and really make a difference in your life.

I think that too often it seems easier for a lot of people to just run away from them. I know in the past I have done that. But when I look back at those situations, I often ponder what could have been. Where would I be now if I had chosen to take on that particular challenge and over come what ever obstacle there was? All I can say is that I know things would be different.

So it all comes down to do we want to take on the challenges. It may take a change in attitude, or in mindset to make that decision. But it can be done. I for one am going to take them on. When you encounter a situation where you have set a goal and a challenge arises, take up the challenge. It may be the only way you will achieve your goal. Don’t get to a point when all you can do is look back and wonder what if.

Set you goals high. Make them seem like they are unachievable. And when those challenges arise and you fall down, get back up and keep going. You can achieve anything you want. But you have to have the courage and desire to pursue those dreams.

Here is a video that I got from a friend not that long ago. It really says a lot about what we can achieve, and the challenges we can overcome.

DJ Gregory Video

When I watched this it really brought to light some things. The challenges that I have don’t come close to those of some others. And if DJ can do what he did, there is no reason I can’t achieve anything I set my mind to.

So everyone, dream big! “If you have a dream, go after it. Don’t let anybody tell you, you can’t do something.” – DJ Gregory

Thank you DJ for your inspiration!

Well, here it is. 2009 is upon us.

The stock market closed the year down 33.8%. The worst since 1931. http://is.gd/ekyb

So what does that mean for Internet and Network Marketers?

Just this. Did you know that more millionaires are made in hard economic times than in good times?

So the question is are you going to be one of them?

You know, you can. It has been said by some of the top Internet Marketers that being in the Internet and Network Marketing industry will be the best place to be during these down economic times.

Now some may be apprehensive about that because of their current financial situation. But let me tell you that it really doesn’t matter where you are financially. I know of some people who have done very well on the Internet by starting from the public library because they did not own a computer of their own. So it can be done.

There are some things you may want to keep in mind though. When you look at what is out there as far as business opportunities and ways to make money on the Internet, you will see a lot of what we call hype. People promising that you can get rich quick and retire within a year, and the list goes on and on. Now it is possible for that to happen, but the circumstances have to be just right. The main thing to keep in mind here is that nothing comes for free. There is always a cost. Either time or money. That being said, working online does take some work, dedication, and patience. Not to mention learning. Learning how to do certain things. Learning what not to do.

Bottom line is that the success is there for the taking for those willing to go after it. When you come to the crossroads where you’ve been working and working but not seeming to get where you want to be, you have a choice. Continue along that path, or take a different road.

For me, I see this New Year as an opportunity to really grow. Both spiritually, and financially. I have chosen the road to success.

Have you?

If you want to change things for the better, but are struggling with where to go or how to get there, let me know. I would be more than happy to help in any way that I can.

I want to share a story from an e-mail I received the other day. The thing I want to bring out in this story is how it relates to Network Marketing.

When I first read this story, the first thing I though of was, “now that’s how Network Marketing should be done”.

Here it is:

A holy man was having a conversation with God one day and said, ‘ God , I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like.’

God led the holy man to two doors.

He opened one of the doors and the holy man looked in.

In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew, which smelled delicious and made the holy man’s mouth water.

The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They appeared to be famished.

They were holding spoons with very long handles, that were strapped to their arms and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful.

But because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths.

The holy man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering.

God said, ‘You have seen Hell.’

They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one.

There was the large round table with the large pot of stew which made the holy man’s mouth water.

The people were equipped with the same long-handled spoons, but here, the people were well nourished and plump, laughing and talking. The holy man said, ‘I don’t understand.’

It is simple,’ said God . ‘It requires but one skill.

You see they have learned to feed each other, while the greedy think only of themselves.’

You see its all about giving and sharing. If you help others succeed in life or in business, you will be deeply rewarded.

I just wanted to share this with you and to let you know…..

Remember that I will always share my spoon with you.

It seems that a lot of people these days are desperate for answers’ to their financial and life problems. A lot of life’s problems stem from the money problems.

And it seems to be especially prominent in Network Marketing these days. It seems that no matter where I go online I get hit with the “check this out”, “join this”, “buy this”, “this is the best site on the net” etc, etc.

How can it be that every one has the best program, website, or opportunity on the net? Well, it comes down to what the person believes. You have to truly believe in what you are offering and have a passion for it but….

What the majority of people seem to over look are our own human emotions. We get involved with something that we are passionate about and just want to shout to the world “Look What I Found!”. You want to tell every one what you have found and you go about telling as many as you possibly can, any way you can. And that’s what I’m seeing out here on the net. That’s where in Network Marketing, one of the problems arises. You see most people just don’t like being sold to.

I want to share some comments made by some friends during an impromptu Skype chat. There were some very good comments made that will help you to see what other marketers see when you get desperate. These are some very successful marketers and we can all learn from what they have to say. The names are not important. What is important is what they are saying.

“I’m so tired of getting bombarded with biz opps I could throw up…”

“biz opps, tools, this website, that website.. it gets a bit crazy”

“I can see why people get so overwhelmed”

“well, I think people are forgetting that it’s not about the opportunity”

“that’s right… it’s about the person.”

“I don’t have a problem with the biz opps as much as the way people promote them.
just growing weary of all the spam… it’s still everywhere you look.”

“ because people are desperate to make money”

“I know why they do it, just wish they would learn the better way.”

“ patience and being in it for the long haul needs to be the key”

“I’m finding the that spamming mindset, right now, couldn’t care less about doing things the right way, because they are desperate for money.”

“Social marketing, seems to many, like the long road.”

“ and actually, if a person would just create a decent blog and add to it daily for 30 days, they would be amazed how well things begin to produce.”

“ so many people aren’t even giving their opportunity a chance… if they don’t make money in the first month, they freak… you really have to treat it like a real business”

“profit is never going to happen immediately.. it took 3 months for me to get in the black… but once I was there.. OH BOY!”

“the problem is most people online come online with no money to inmvest in their business or education”

“you need to have SOME money to make money”
“ you HAVE to have some money to invest”

“ you have to put something in to get something out.”

“one of the things I learned, early on, is that when money comes into your business, you need to put some of that money back into it.”

Any way you get the gist. Now anybody in business knows you need to advertise. And there are places to do just that.

We all have those emotions that want us to just tell every body about something. But how about taking a different approach. You have your product and are very excited about it. Look at your product, see how it can benefit others. Then just talk to others as people, find out what their needs are and see if your product could help them in some way. They will hear the excitement and passion in your voice. And most of all they will be appreciative for you help and will suggest you to others they know who need the same kind of help.

“Marketing is the art and science of communicating, empowering, and building a relationship with another human being based on their needs, not mine or yours”.

I hope this helps you realize that by appearing desperate you are only hurting yourself, I know that I take these comments to heart and intend to learn from them.

If you want to learn more, let me know.

Have you ever noticed that the most successful people are the hardest workers? They didn’t become successful by sitting around and wishing for things to happen. They worked to make things happen. They have put in many, many hours to be where they are at. It requires a lot of dedication and work.

With that being said, those successful people also know the value of getting away from their work for short periods of time. Even in the work place they have things called vacations. They are meant to provide a way to get away from the toils of whatever work you are doing. Allowing you to return to your work refreshed and ready to tackle things with a new perspective.

So take time to refresh every so often. Even with Internet Marketing I have found myself so engaged with my work that at times it takes away from other things I should be doing. Things like keeping in touch with family and friends. Doing something fun just for me. (Although I do enjoy working on the Internet).

It really doesn’t matter if you are working from home or at a 9 – 5 job. There are times when we all need to take break and refresh. So make sure you don’t work so hard that you burn yourself out. So take a break now and then so you can stay sharp and be productive.

Here is what I did on a weekend earlier this year:

My dad, who has Alzheimer’s, has a place up in northern Wisconsin. So I went up there to help out with some of the things he can’t do any more and then take him to an air show. He used to fly himself, just as a hobby so I knew he would enjoy this. I made the two hour drive up to the lake on a Saturday, with plans to spend the night and go to the air show on Sunday. When I got there dad was so excited about the air show he thought we were going then. But it was a rainy day and I knew that before I went. So we spent the day Saturday doing some things around the place that needed to get done.

I got up Sunday morning and made breakfast for every body. Made sure dad had all of his medications, helped get him ready and headed to the air show. It was another two hour trip back south to Eau Claire where the air show was being held. We had some nice conversation and visiting along the way, and dad even got in a short nap. There was a chance for some rain, but it looked like it was going to be ok for the show.

Here is a video of what we did from there. A lot of video of the Blue Angels and a bit of dad as we went through the rest of the day.

We did have a good time! And dad even with Alzheimer’s remembers that day. He talked about it for a week after the show.

It was a chance for me to get away from the computer for a while and to share a day with my dad. And yes I was refreshed when I got back into my work.

Have a very productive day and take time to refresh yourself now and then.

Learning what it takes to be a successful Internet Marketer can be a daunting task.

One of the things you can do is find out who is acutally succeeding and learn from them. Look at how they are promoting their business. Find out how they got started. Most honest and ethical marketers will be willing to share their stories with you. As a matter of fact, one of the ways a lot of successful marketers build their business is by sharing their story.

The best way to learn is to find a mentor. Some one who can show you exactly what it is that they do and how they do it. There are many out there who claim to be mentors, but a lot of them just refer you to an ebook or video. And that’s fine to a point. What you want is some body who will be available to answer your question. One of the best tactics that I have seen a mentor use is desktop sharing. It allows the mentor to show their screen to the student and talk to them simultaneously.

I say that having a mentor is the best way because there is so much to learn. And having some one available to you is key. Some will say that they can learn from the ebooks and videos and that is true. You can. But what if you don’t understand something or you want to clarify a topic? Where do you go? And is the author available to you? All questions you need to ask yourself when looking for a qualified mentor.

Once you have gotten some knowledge and training, it is vitally important that you actually put what you learn into action. Without action nothing gets accomplished. Now even with all of that training and mentoring you are still going to make mistakes. That’s ok. We all do. And that my friends can be a very valuable learning tool in and of itself. Any successful person will tell you that they indeed did make mistakes along the way. The difference between the successful and those that aren’t is that the successful people learned from thier mistakes, moved on, and didn’t quit.

So bottom line is don’t quit. Persevere and learn as you go. Things typically don’t happen over night.

Be blessed and never stop learning.
